Notatka | <p><span style="font-family: Mate, serif; font-size: 17px; background-color: #ffffff;">Obituary:</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: Mate, serif; font-size: 17px; background-color: #ffffff;">Turners Falls-Mary Alyce (Pula) Ciechomski, 86, formerly of Park Villa Apt. died Tuesday (4/20/10) at the Center for Extended Care Facility in Amherst. She was born September 7, 1923 in South Hadley, MA the daughter of Peter & Rosalie (Grzyb) Pula. She attended South Hadley schools graduating as the Valedictorian from South Hadley High School, Class of 1940. She graduated from Northampton Commercial College in 1941, and was employed at Westover Air Force Base for the duration of WWII as a secretary for the Base Ordinance Office. During this time she met and married Paul "Steve" Ciechomski on November 9, 1946. The couple resided in South Hadley. In 1948, Mary became a full time housewife and mother, engaging in various volunteer activities with her family. She was a communicant and active member at St Theresa's Catholic Church, participating in the Sodality Woman's Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader and officer of the Western Massachusetts Polish Junior League. In 1966, she was employedas the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in South Hadley, MA, retiring in 1979. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Winchester, NH. In 1985, they returned to Massachusetts taking up residence in Turners Falls where she shared actively in the community until her death. In Turners Falls, she was highly active in Senior Center activities. Some of her projects included being a member on the Council on Aging for over 20 years, the Meal Site Committee Chairman for six years, she organized monthly Senior Bus Trips for nine years, spearheaded weekly Bingo sessions at the Senior Center, was a participant in the Brown Bag program since its inception and volunteered at the Senior Craft Shop at the Farren Health Care Center. Always interested in learning, she attended Polish Speaking classes and was a member of the original memoir writing group at the Montague Senior Center. An avid Rex Sox fan, her dream was fulfilled with the winning of the World Series in 2004. The dream continued with another World Series win in 2007. She was a voracious reader which continued via books on tape, despite a medical condition which stole her sight. She was a communicant of the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, where she was active member of the Women's Council. Her husband predeceased her on March 30, 1991. Among her survivors she leaves two sons, Paul "Steve" Ciechomski, Jr. and his wife Joan of North Hatfield, MA and Bradley P. Ciechomski and his wife Alyson of Portland, ME, three daughters, Cheryl A. Ciechomski and her partner Margaret Fournier of Portland, ME, Holly R. Lankowski and her husband Peter of South Deerfield, MA and Lynne M. Kokoski and her husband Edward of Hancock, NH, ten grandchildren, Sara Ciechomski, Kate Ciechomski, Emily Fournier, Nicole Lankowski and her husband Greg, Laurie Lankowski, Richard Montone and his partner Erika Nelson, Edgie Kokoski, Michael Kokoski and his wife Hannah, Kathleen Ciechomski, and Hannah Ciechomski, two great grandchildren,Myalin and Henry Lawrence, two brothers, Fred Pula and his wife Marilyn of Hingham, MA and Peter Pula of Norwalk, CA, and many nieces & nephews. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Saturday (4/24) at 10am at Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, officiating. Burial will be at the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley, MA at 2pm. Calling hours will be Friday (4/23) from 5pm-8pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls.
